I’ve polished my entry since my last post about it. I decided it was worth the extra work to polish the message and increase my chances to win or get noticed. Winning this contest, or at least getting noticed by the “uber jury”, could very well play a large role in getting my app the exposure needs to succeed.
For those interested, I used Atebit’s awesome/free SIMFinger for the iPhone simulator magic, Garageband to compile the soundtrack, ScreenFlow to capture and edit the screencast, PhotoBooth and Photoshop to capture and edit the pics, and iMovie to add the final layer of polish. It was a lot of work. Hopefully it will be worth it.

Nice job -good luck! We’ve been using the software you mentioned to showcase some of our apps. It comes in very handy! So When does Grades go live, after Xmas you mentioned? If you have moment check out our new site http://www.paperbagltd.com. We are excited about our new app called Photobag which rolls out after Xmas.
Thanks Gary. Yeah, I’m planning for a mid-late January launch. Very nice site.
Hey, thanks for pointing out this competition! I entered too, although my app is seriously unfinished. Here’s my entry: http://www.rizerapps.com/ Just interested, any particular reason why you used ScreenFlow and not Quicktime’s capture feature?
Hey Luke, nice entry. I used Screenflow mainly because of its basic editing features (zooming in/out, subtitles, etc.) It does some of the screencast specific editing better than iMovie, in my opinion.
hey jeremy
the final version of your video is cool! like it a lot. so good luck at the competition, I’m sure you’ll gain at least some attention.
Hey Jeremy! I like the updated version! Good work
@Luke Rogers: Next time try rather Snapz X Pro, it’s much more usable than QuickTime and any other tools. It’s a tool of the pros! xD
Thanks Robin. Can’t wait to get my hands on your Cookmate app, it looks awesome! How unfortunate that our appsfire entries are in the same category, your demo is excellent.
I think that it’s not about who win but make some attentions to our apps. That’s important. Anyway I’m curious… how do you know that our apps are in the same category? xD
Thats definitely true. The winner will get crazy attention but a lot of the other apps will also generate buzz, especially if they get in the top 30 and get noticed by the “uber jury.”
Process of elimination: your app didn’t strike me as a “game” or “entertainment” app so I assume it would fall into “utility or other”, as does mine. I hope I’m wrong though
I have good news for you — we decided to put Cookmate in Entertainment… I think you’ll sleep well tonight xDD
Outstanding! I most certainly will. In that case, here’s hoping you win.
Sweet vid, I entered BizBreak in the Entertainment category. I’ve seen you talk about Seth Godin books in here, I too am an avid Seth Godin reader. Have you read Unleashing The Ideavirus? That was the single book that launched my idea on the contest we’ll run for BizBreak.
Hey dude, strong work. The second version is much better. Keep it up. As we strive to kick out our first app, you site has been super helpful. Hopefully ours can be as insightful as yours.
Frypan
Marshall: thanks. I actually have not yet read Unleashing the Ideavirus yet but I plan to do so soon. Good luck on the contest.
Frypan: Good luck on the blog. I have found blogging to be quite worthwhile as it not only puts your voice out there but it forces you to think through things more thoroughly than you usually would.
