If you’re new, Grades is the app I’ve been working on for a year now. It allows students to see the scores they need on their upcoming assignments, tests, and finals in order to hit the grade they want.
Chances are you’re not a student. If I were you, I would pick up a copy any way. I’ve done my best to practice what I preach so I hope you can draw some inspiration from the UI; I’m doing some things I haven’t seen done in other apps (the whole background scrolls like a drawer, for example).
Get it now for 99 cents (intro price, will discuss later): App Store Link.
And check out the new gradesapp.com.
Let the games begin!

Was it a fluke that you were able to get your app ahead of the batch new release load which got listed alphabetically? It’s pretty sweet that you’re #1 on the Education New Releases List–soon enough you’ll just be #1 in Education overall! Great job with your app!
It actually was not a fluke. I’ll probably blog about this but I discovered a technique (and now I know it works). Goes like this: set your release date to some day in the future (past your planned release date), on your planned release day wait until midnight has passed (I waited until 6 am) and then change the release date to that day. Looks like the release-date section does take time into account so most apps are released at midnight but mine was released at 6am, thus I get the spotlight!
We mentioned your app on our blog, just a small blurb, hope it helps!

Hey Ashli, thanks!
Nice work! While I’ve been out of school for some time now, I sent this app to a niece of mine via the new “Gift This App” feature in iTunes. I’m sure she’ll love it!
Awesome, that feature is awesome for us app developers. I know of at least one other person who has done that and I imagine it will be common for an app like this!
“If your new…”
And you can use “your” own app to bone up on “your” English.
Nice catch, thanks.
Hi Jeremy, can you add some further details on your ‘technique’?
How did you do it exactly, I mean: you set a date in the future before your app got approved, that is clear. My question is, how did you proceed once you received the approval email from Apple? And how much time passed since then?
Thanks a lot for your help and congrats for your App, its awesome!!
